Harold Owen

Harold Owen is professor emeritus of composition at the University of Oregon School of Music. Born in Los Angeles in 1931, he attended the University of Southern California, from which he holds the Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Music degrees in composition. He joined the faculty of the U. of O. School of Music in 1966, was chair of the composition department, and has directed the Collegium Musicum and the University Consort. He also directed the the Liturgical Choir of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

Among Owen’s compositions are works for orchestra, chorus, solo instruments, and chamber ensembles, and he has authored text books on counterpoint and theory.
