Michael Purves-Smith

LIT025  Trois Poèmes du Musée Jean Aicard. Quartet: S A T B Recorders with underlay for choir.

Composer Michael Purves-Smith was born in 1945, in Kelowna, British Columbia. As well as composition, his career has included conducting, teaching, and performing on keyboards, baroque and modern oboes, and recorders. Since he is an accomplished recorder player, he has often been called upon to lead workshops and to choose music for them. Struck by the lack of entry-level recorder ensemble music that remains in the memory of the players, he started arranging some of his own vocal music and also writing original works for recorder ensembles. These three little chansons have always been welcomed with surprise and pleasure whenever he has introduced them to recorder players.
